About this map
A "home" is placed every 50 m along every residential and main street in London. From each one, the walk to the nearest of each service is measured along OpenStreetMap streets, footpaths, alleys and park paths, not in a straight line. A park counts as reached at its edge or any path inside it.
Small areas are coloured by their typical (median) home; shares of Londoners weight each home by its small area's population. Walking speeds: 4.8 km/h is the usual planning assumption; 3.6 km/h is closer to an older person or someone with a pushchair.
Not everything is in OpenStreetMap, and some services (a GP list that's closed to new patients, a park locked at night) aren't open to everyone. Services just outside Greater London aren't counted, so homes near the edge may look worse off than they are.
